Benefits of taking part
Genomics England, with the help of the public and participants, is attempting to create the World’s largest repository of genomics data ensuring a lasting legacy for the NHS and the UK economy through the sequencing of 100,000 genomes.
On a patient level the main reason to get involved in the project is the identification of a genetic cause to their potential diagnosis. This will allow for a better understanding of the disease, and with that hopefully better treatment options as we can see what drugs work better for each individual.
Through the optional additional health findings you can also find genetic predispositions to disease from a specific limited list of genetic disorders. If something is found you will be contacted by your specialist doctor and will be referred to the appropriate specialist team to discuss this in more detail.
